14th ranked Central Missouri out scored the Emporia State football team 34-27 Saturday afternoon.
Emporia State quarterback Dalton Cowan threw for 310 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Marcellus Edwards caught his first career touchdown pass to tie the game at 20 at halftime.
After Central Missouri returned an interception for a touchdown to take a 34-20 lead Wil Amos caught a touchdown pass with 1:02 to play to cut the deficit to 34-27.
An onside kick was recovered by Central allowing the Mules to run out the clock.
True freshman Rasheed Noel scored his first career touchdown on a 45 yard run to give Emporia State a 7-3 lead.
Calvin Boyce scored on a 5 yard run to give Emporia State a 13-10 lead.
Coach Garin Higgins was pleased with the teams effort.
The Emporia State defense held the nations top scoring team to 34 points, which equals their season low. They also came up with two fumble recoveries and an interception.
With the loss the Hornets fall to 2-5 for the season. They will play at Missouri Western next Saturday.
