One could easily say Drew Bonnet had all the right ingredients to win Flint Hills Technical College’s third annual The Cut competition Friday night.
Bonnet says he felt good to win. He was also relieved to finish.
Keyghan Reed finished second.
Vice President of Advancement Mike Crouch says the event was another big showcase for both the culinary arts department and multimedia design department, which essentially served as a video crew for the event and the better than 100 people that attended.
Crouch also encouraged people to financially support the $2.4 million Inspiring Wranglers capital campaign to expand the hospitality and culinary arts department. Crouch says the college needs to expand culinary arts — and if it does, there is enough interest from students to triple or quadruple the current enrollment.
Recent Cut contestants are also launching their careers, with 2017 winner Katie Beatty now the head chef at the Emporia Country Club and 2018 winner Jacob Holmes now the head chef at the Manhattan Country Club. Bonnet, who currently works at Keller Feed and Wine after a stint at Radius, is looking to move near family in Colorado after college. Reed, meanwhile, is hoping to own either a restaurant or a series of restaurants after college.
