It’s fair to say accomplished drummer Jack Mouse welcomed a chance to both play inside the Granada Theatre and raise funds for the facility with a special concert Friday night.
Mouse and his wife of over 30 years, Janice Borla, performed for the first time together inside the theater since its renovation over a decade ago — although Mouse, an Emporia High Hall of Fame inductee, has many fond memories of the theater growing up, starting when his grandmother played piano for silent movies.
Borla, a noted jazz singer, performed at the theater for the then-Emporia Arts Council in the 1980s. She says she was blessed to perform there again.
The concert was essentially split in half, with Mouse leading the first half…
…and Borla leading the performance in the second half.
Fundraising totals are pending. Money will help to expand the Granada’s concert offerings and perhaps bring additional activities to the theater.
Meanwhile, Mouse and Borla are giving back to the community in another way. Their charitable organization, Flashpoint Creative Arts, will have two days of activities for special needs students inside the Granada on Monday and Tuesday.
