Kansas Gas Service is in the process of repairing a ruptured gas line in the 500 block of S. Congress Street.
The Emporia Fire Department was called to the area shortly before 2 pm Tuesday afternoon for a gas leak. According to EFD Batallion Chief Ryan Schmidt, a contractor was excavating in the area and “severed” a gas line.
Kansas Gas Service is working to pinch off the line and, according to Schmidt, will shut off the gas in the lot as it is currently not being used. No evacuations were required and no injuries were reported.
