Late-night severe weather and rainfall did little to sway the success of the first annual Fall Harvest Festival at The Orchard on Saturday.
The immediate Emporia area received at least two inches of rain Friday along with hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter, but storms cleared the area several hours before the event.
The Orchard began as a small operation with only ten apple trees but has since greatly expanded to where it is today. Owner Bob Karr took a backseat role in the planning, leaving it to “the experts,” he says.
The Orchard officially opens at 10:00 am, but cars began lining the parking lot as early as thirty minutes before then. Five-year-old Connor Durbin says he’s excited for all the fun, but mostly two activities in particular.
The Orchard is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sundays, and will remain open until mid-December. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
