Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers plans to end a better than 30-year career in law enforcement when he retires at the end of his current term in two years.
Rogers started his career as Waverly’s city marshal in 1987 before becoming a Coffey County deputy the following year. He was elected to replace Pete Gunlock as sheriff in 1996 and has now served six terms in that capacity.
Before starting his law enforcement career, Rogers served four years as a paratrooper in the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.
Rogers says he plans to spend more time with his family after he retires.
