Traffic has been disrupted in a major traffic area following a significant water main break in south Emporia Tuesday evening.
The break occurred at the intersection of 6th Ave. and Wilson Street before 5 pm Tuesday. According to Public Works Director Dean Grant, the line in question is likely one of the three six-inch lines in the vicinity.
Water service has been disabled to customers from Wilson Street east to Sunnyslope along sixth Ave. Grant says the break could have been more significant if the line in question had been larger.
Crews are currently on scene and a fix is expected to be in place by Tuesday evening. Westbound traffic in the area is down to one lane as crews work, and Grant says it will remain so until further repairs are completed Wednesday.
The cause of the break has yet to be determined.
