The Kansas Masonic Literacy Center on the Campus of Emporia State University was the site of a special ceremony Saturday afternoon.
Leadership from the Kansas Masonic Foundation — the organization whose $4 million donation led to the center’s establishment in 2016 — ESU administrators and even some of the children who have benefited from the center were all in attendance for the special occasion. The Kansas Masonic Literacy Center’s three pillars are to provide service for schools, teachers and students, communities and families, and research the betterment of literacy development.
KMLC Administrator Dennis Kear says the KMLC is continuously striving to form community partnerships which will help to grow and evolve the services offered by the center.
Saturday’s ceremony followed what has been an exciting month of activities for the center including Kansas Literacy Week, Read to Succeed and the Kansas Book Festival.
Following the dedication ceremony, the Grand Mason and several local elementary students — who have benefited from the center’s services — delivered the game ball at center field of the ESU football game at Welch Stadium.
