Emporia State’s Music Department brought back a former professor to both perform and be honored during the Gala Benefit Concert on Saturday.
Katherine Borst Jones was a flute professor in 1973. Now she teaches at The Ohio State University and is also inducted into the National Flute Association Hall of Fame. She tells KVOE News ballet got her interested in flute because of the music, and she says music offered her much more than just a career.
Music Department Chair Allan Comstock says music students at ESU get a well-rounded experience.
Jones performed two pieces, a solo and a quartet, before being inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Honor. Current ESU music professors performed in the second half of the concert, which raised money for scholarships at ESU — especially for non-music majors. Totals are pending.
