Pittsburg State scored 24 unanswered 4th quarter points to out score Emporia State 47-23 Saturday night.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins says they need to learn from the game.
Emporia State scored first on a 9 yard touchdown pass from Dalton Cowan to TJ Mackey after recovering a fumble. Pittsburg State would score the next 23 points to take a 23-7 lead in the 3rd quarter.
Emporia State rallied scoring on a Carlos Grace 71 yard run with a 2 point conversion. Dalton Cowan scored on a 5 yard run with a 2 point conversion to tie the game at 23.
In the 4th quarter Pittsburg State turned 2 interceptions into a fieldgoal and a pick 6 for the final scores. Pittsburg State had 3 interceptions and turned them into 17 points.
Carlos Grace led Emporia States offense with 135 yards rushing including the 71 yard touchdown run.
Dalton Cowan was 19-33 for 174 yards with a touchdown and 3 interceptions.
With the loss the Hornets are now 1-1 for the Season. They will host Nebraska Kearney next Saturday with kick-off at 2pm.
