The fall 2019 election cycle is upon us, and Emporians will have several chances to learn the views of the candidates for City Commission and USD 253 Board of Education.
KVOE has slotted City Commission Candidate Forums for Oct. 8 and Oct. 10, along with School Board Candidate Forums for Oct. 15 and Oct. 17. All four programs will start at 10:06 am and last about an hour. Candidates will field questions from the KVOE News department and from the general public.
Also, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its Candidate Forum for Emporia City Commission candidates Oct. 15 and a forum for School Board candidates Oct. 17. Those will both start at 6:30 pm at the Flint Hills Technical College main campus. The forums will start with candidate introductions before going to a question-and-answer session and a meet-and-greet session afterward.
Candidates this year are:
Emporia City Commission — Joni Austenfeld, Susan Brinkman, Lisa Brittain, Rob Gilligan, Todd Maddox and Becky Smith
Emporia Board of Education: Jeremy Dorsey, Art Gutierrez, Mallory Koci, Jeff Lutes, Grant Riles and Leslie Seeley
Voter registration ends Oct. 15, with advance mail ballot voting starting Oct. 16. Lyon County will have a special Saturday voting event Oct. 19 at Flinthills Mall before the traditional early voting process begins at the Lyon County Courthouse Oct. 21. The general election is Nov. 5.
