The 2019 Relay for Life is happening Saturday.
Activities will begin at noon with a kickoff ceremony featuring several short videos detailing the importance of Relay for Life and how it helps to support those battling cancer. At the conclusion of the ceremony the walk will get underway with games and activities available for children.
The annual survivor’s dinner will take place at 5:30 pm, with sign-in at 4:30, followed by a live drawing for a custom made ring valued at $6,000 donated by Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal. All funds from Relay for Life will go to the American Cancer Society to benefit local cancer patients and support cancer research.
Organizer, and cancer survivor, Cherie Crisp says all funds help the American Cancer Society provide services which help to ease financial burdens of patients and their families as they undergo cancer treatments.
A silent auction will also be going on throughout the day and tickets for the ring drawing may be purchased up until the drawing Saturday evening. The annual event has raised between $30,000 to $50,000 a year for cancer research. Activities will wrap up at 10 pm Saturday evening and will be located at the Clint Bowyer Community Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
