Eighteen years ago, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks.
Planes hijacked by al Qaeda militants destroyed both towers of the World Trade Center complex and damaged the Pentagon. A fourth plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Once again, area residents are encouraged to spend some time at the Interstate 35 Melvern exit for the 17th annual Random Acts of Patriotism. Spokesperson Deb Fuller says events like these are vital to remembering what happened 18 years ago, especially because the memory is starting to fade for some people while others weren’t born yet.
Random Acts of Patriotism is underway until 6:30 pm. If you’re attending, you’re encouraged to bring a lawn chair and your own refreshments.
