The Northern Heights Wildcats opened their season with a 27-6 victory over the Osage City Indians Friday night at Welch Stadium.
Northern Heights opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 14-yard touchdown run by quarterback Cameron Heiman.
Osage City answered with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Landon Boss to Keegan Anschutz to tie the score at six in the second quarter.
A seven-yard run from Heiman would give the lead back to the Wildcats heading into the locker room.
Heiman would add a 14 and 18-yard touchdown run in the second half to seal the win for Northern Heights. Heiman led the offense with 211 rushing yards and was two of seven passing for 37 yards.
Heiman says their plan was to attack early.
Northern Heights managed the win despite picking up 11 penalties throughout the game. Wildcats Co-Head Coach Darwin Sweetman says they need to have a bit more consistency moving forward.
Osage City managed just 47 yards from the ground and quarterback Landon Boss completed five of 10 passes for 28 yards and a touchdown.
Northern Heights now begins the season 1-0 as Osage City falls to 0-1.
