Emporia State University’s Special Collections and Archives are helping to uncover some of the “Hidden Gems” which help make ESU a great place to be.
The Hidden Gems exhibit was opened to the public Friday afternoon and featured an in-depth look at numerous programs, locations and resources which may be lesser known on the ESU campus. Special Collections and Archives spokesperson Rebekkah Curry tells KVOE News the mission of special collections is the collection and preservation of ESU history.
Curry explains how the new exhibit helps the department accomplish this mission.
Curry says the exhibit features information on ESU’s Herbarium which was established around 1911 by an ESU faculty member and currently contains a collection of 43,000 plants which can be utilized to verify plant identifications. Also included in the exhibit are the Kansas Small Business Development Center, Kansas libraries and information on historical landmarks such as sculptures and historical markers on the ESU campus.
The exhibit will remain up through December of this year. Those wishing to view the exhibit may do so by visiting the Special Collections and Archives Department in the basement of William Allen White Library on the ESU campus.
