USD 243 Lebo-Waverly has expanded class offerings for young learners at the start of the 2019 school year.
Part of that deals with simple numbers, according to Superintendent Corey Reece.
The district added a kindergarten teacher at Lebo to meet the demand. Reece says it’s highly important for young learners to succeed, especially when it comes to reading.
USD 243 added a student support specialist and business teacher at Lebo. It also added an assistant principal and special education teacher at Waverly, largely with the help of around $200,000 in extra money after lawmakers finalized an education funding package and the Kansas Supreme Court approved it earlier this year.
Reece says facilities are currently in good shape, and the district will pay off a significant bond next fall so it will be debt-free — thus letting the district reduce the current mill levy. Looking ahead, roofs are nearing the end of their 20-year lifespans so there may well be a $500,000 project to repair those.
