Every year, Random Acts of Patriotism sets up a public display on Interstate-35 in remembrance of the lives lost on the terrorist attacks of 9/11, as well as to commemorate the brave first responders who answered the call on that frightful day.
Random Acts of Patriotism has been organizing this demonstration every year since the attacks beginning on September 11th of 2002. This all takes place on Exit 160 on I-35, about 30 miles east of Emporia. Spokesperson Deb Fuller talks about the event’s background.
Those passing through who see the decorations are encouraged to stop at the Melvern Exit and make friendly conversation with the others in attendance. There is an overwhelming feeling of comradery and adoration in the air, says Fuller.
The 9/11 demonstration will be on Exit 160 on I-35 east of Emporia from 6:30 am until 6:30 pm rain, wind, or shine. Those who intend to stay to celebrate are encouraged to bring chairs and coolers with food and beverages.
