Nearly five months after starting, Emporia’s downtown sanitary sewer project is continuing in residential areas. At the same time, more work is taking place in the commercial core.
Main Street Director Casey Woods credited the city of Emporia for its due diligence before the work started.
Woods says underground infrastructure is critical for development, whether it’s existing businesses, new construction or infill. And he says a trustworthy sanitary sewer network Ranks high on that list.
Woods said work is continuing near the Kress Center and Navrat’s Office Supply with separate work zones. Other work continues in residential areas just north of Tenth Avenue, and Woods expects more activity behind Dynamic Discs within the next few weeks.
Point repairs and general service line repairs are the initial focus before special linings will be installed later. Once that changeover happens, businesses may well need to shut down their water service for a few hours. Woods expects most of those adjustments will happen after normal business hours.
