Nine hundred dollars will go a long way to help the fledgling Emporia High School bike club.
The group was grateful for donations generated through the first-ever Why Not Tri event last month as organized by Babes on Bikes. At the formal check presentation recently, club organizer Neil Taylor said the money came at a good time.
Babes on Bikes spokesperson Rachel Andrews says the fundraiser topped her expectations.
Why Not Tri featured a bike ride from the Jones Aquatic Center to Emporia High, a walk or run around the walking trail connecting Emporia High to Emporia Middle School, a ride back to the Aquatic Center and a swim in the Lazy River. Andrews says plans are underway for the event to return next year.
Taylor says the club has 10 active participants with another 15 that signed up at the start of the year.
