Fewer Kansas residents applied for concealed carry gun permits in fiscal 2019 despite a short-term reduction in the application fee.
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt says his office received around 3,800 applications — a 21-percent decrease from fiscal 2018 and the lowest application number since the licensing program started in 2006.
New applications may have declined, but Schmidt says most licensed Kansans are keeping those permits activated with more than 16,000 renewal applications filed in fiscal 2019.
Application fees were dropped from $132.50 to $112 for fiscal 2018 but are back to the normal amount. License renewals are still $25. Renewal applications submitted after their expiration date now cost $40.
