A new mission statement and the monthly financial report for the month of July highlighted a jam-packed agenda for the Flint Hills Community Health Center Board of Directors monthly meeting Tuesday.
During this time board members received the monthly financial report which reflected a net loss of $45,000 for July. This is the third month which has seen a significant net loss following losses in both May and June.
According to Chief Financial Officer Stephanie Ringgold, the first five months of the year all saw substantial net gains. She tells KVOE News decreased productivity in the summer months is common due to lesser demand.
CEO Renee Hively says while the loss is regrettable she feels the center’s turnaround plan — which has 12 months remaining — is still on a good course saying “we still have time to gain some traction.”
Hively adds “recruitment efforts are looking positive.”
In other business Tuesday, board members unanimously voted to approve the center’s new strategic plan for 2020-2024. According to Hively, the new plan does not deviate much from the original plan, with one exception.
The committee which developed the plan decided to adopt a new mission statement to replace the former statement “to promote the health and well being of the whole community.” The new statement now reads “to provide personalized, affordable and quality healthcare services for all.”
Hively says the new statement is a better depiction of who and what the health center is and more thoroughly includes the entire community.
Along with the new mission statement, the health center has also welcomed a new communications director.
Brandon Stiner comes to the Health Center after working in a similar role at Southeast KansasWorks, and he replaces Verlin Conkle, who is now the Health Center’s psychiatry clinic director. On KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday, Stiner said there are several things local and area residents may not realize about the Health Center, including the sliding fee payment system.
Stiner says some of his early responsibilities will include redesigning the Health Center’s website, www.flinthillshealth.org, to make it more mobile-friendly. He also has plans to make the Health Center at 420 West 15th more physically visible by adding LED lighting or signage and perhaps removing some trees near the building. Another possibility is emphasizing the Friends of the Health Center, its work and its need for members. The FHCHC Board of Directors will next meet Tuesday Sept. 27 at noon inside the Havenhill Conference Room.
