Court proceedings have started against two area women accused of being involved in a case where a handgun was allegedly brandished at a car that had children in the back seat.
Trynity Johnson, age 18 of Emporia, and 20-year-old Abigayle Donahue of Lebo both face two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated child endangerment after an alleged incident last Wednesday.
Court documents provided to KVOE News indicate a social media dispute over a recent court case led to Johnson, Donahue and an unnamed 15-year-old girl following a car from Sixth and Prairie to far east Emporia. The two vehicles then met again on the north side of the Emporia State University campus. Authorities say the car occupied by Johnson, Donahue and the unnamed teenager pulled in front of the other car near the underpass connecting Highland Street to Campus Woods, with Donahue allegedly driving and Johnson allegedly pointing a handgun at the second car.
There were two adults and two children, both under the age of five, in the car.
As they arrested Johnson and Donahue, authorities say they seized a 9-millimeter handgun and two fuly-loaded magazines from the car. The teenager was released to her mother.
Preliminary hearing dates were set for Johnson and Donahue after a first court appearance in Lyon County District Court on Monday. Johnson has her next hearing at 9 am Oct. 2, while Donahue will be in court at 4 pm Oct. 10.
