Recent grant funding from the state of Kansas comes at a good time for SOS.
The state recently announced almost $300,000 in grants for SOS — around $244,000 for domestic violence and sexual assault programs and another $50,000 for the Child Advocacy Center. On KVOE’s Morning Show recently, Director Connie Cahoone said the demand for services continues at a high level.
Crisis services, notably domestic violence and sexual assault, is the category seeing the biggest increase in traffic. The Child Advocacy Center is a bit slower than normal, but Cahoone expects a rapid increase with school now underway.
Cahoone said the state cut the Child Advocacy Center grant around $1,200, but the general fund grant increased $11,000 over last year. SOS did not have a separate $25,000 grant renewed for its shelter, so Cahoone says administrators and staffers will research how to overcome that financial loss.
SOS continues its $3.1 million Stronger Together fundraising campaign to move all its services, including the main office at 618 Mechanic, to 1420 C of E Drive. At last word, over $2 million had been raised. For more information, call SOS at 343-8799 or go online to www.soskansas.com.
