Kansas Literacy Week is just around the corner, and the Kansas Masonic Literacy Center (KMLC) is sponsoring the week with various reading-related activities.
The Kansas Masonic Literacy Center’s three pillars are to provide service for schools, teachers and students, communities and families, and research the betterment of literacy development. Kansas Literacy Week starts September 1st and runs through the 7th. Executive Director of the KMLC talks about the Center’s changes.
KMLC’s Literacy Week Activities:
*Tuesday, Sept. 3 – Book Buddy Day – Read with a buddy
*Wednesday, Sept. 4 – Read My Shirt Day – Wear a shirt with words or pictures
*Thursday, Sept. 5 – Cozy Up with a Good Book – Wear pajamas and read your favorite book
*Friday, Sept. 6 – Fun in the Sun – Grab your shades, beach blankets, chairs and umbrellas and head outside to read under the sun
Also on the KMLC’s radar is the Rocket Reading Project, which originated in Emporia, but has now expanded to Coffey, Lyon, and Osage Counties. Assistant Director Tasia Markowitz (T-Asia like the continent) expands on this.
If you participate in the Literacy Week activities, make sure you take pictures and post them to the KMLC’s Facebook page to enter into a contest to win $100 worth of books. More information on the Center can be found at emporia.edu/literacy.
