Day one is officially done for the 2019-2020 academic year and Emporia High School Principal Dathan Fischer is reflecting on the start of a new year, in a new position.
Back in May, Fischer was announced as the new principal for EHS after former principal Britton Hart announced he would be stepping down to take a new position at the state level. Fischer tells KVOE News the first day back was a “whirlwind” day, but for all of the right reasons.
Fischer says he is also looking forward to becoming more familiar with students, faculty and families and continuing the relationships he fostered while in his assistant role.
He says he had definite expectations when heading into the new position and there are some definite differences from what he had in mind. However, he says this is a good thing as everything shouldn’t be the way you think it is going to be. Fischer says this year is meant to be as much a learning experience for him as it is his students.
USD 253 students and faculty will now have the weekend to recover from the first day back before the first full week of school begins Monday.
