The Battle of the Badges wrapped up Friday with over 200 units of blood donated, and the winner of the friendly competition was announced.
The three-day drive led to 261 pints donated. Community volunteer for the Red Cross Carolyn Turney says this event proves the community cares.
Each person who donated was able to vote on who they thought should win the Battle of the Badges – Law Enforcement or Fire & Ambulance. This year it was law enforcement who took the trophy. Emporia Police Department Investigator Dominic Vortherms talks about the victory.
Emporia Fire Department Fire Marshal Reason Bradford wasn’t too upset with the loss and commended the drive for its success.
With each pint of donated blood saving as many as three lives, the drive could save over 780 lives by the time the blood is all used.
Three-day goals and units collected:
Wednesday – Goal of 110 pints/129 pints collected
Thursday – Goal of 93 pints/73 pints collected
Friday – Goal of 62 pints/59 collected
