History enthusiasts had the chance to engage with notable figures of days long ago during the inaugural Historical Performance Showcase Festival Saturday.
The Admire Community Center was filled with local residents wanting to get a closer peek at many of the historic individuals you can normally only read about. The day-long festival began with a series of workshops in the morning which included information on how to bring historical performers to your community, how to reach different demographics with history and how to become a historical performer yourself.
Once the morning sessions concluded several performers took to the stage to share the stories of the individuals whom they have researched and portray on a regular basis. Performers included Anna Smith who tells the story of Deborah Sampson a Massachusetts woman who disguised herself as a man to serve in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
After a roughly 30 minute performance, Smith then conducted a Q and A session with audience members both in character.
And out of character.
Additional performances included Belinda Adams portraying Victoria Westman, Anne Birney telling the story of Amelia Earhart and Kitty Frank telling the story of former United States Vice President Charles Curtis from the perspective of his grandmother Grandma Curtis.
