Kansas City hit four home runs — two by Hunter Dozier — but the Detroit Tigers walked-off with a 10-8 win over the Royals, in Detroit, Thursday night.
The Royals and Tigers were tied at eight, going to the bottom of the ninth, before Jordy Mercer cracked a two-run home run off Kansas City’s Richard Lovelady.
Dozier’s two homers give him 20 on the season.
Royals’ manager Ned Yost acknowledged the pitching staff’s nine walks as a factor in the loss, but would like to see the offense scratch out a run or two late — allowing him to get his closer in the game.
Kansas City and the Tigers continue their series Friday night, with Brad Keller facing off against Detroit’s Edwin Jackson. Pre-game coverage begins around 6pm, on KVOE 1400 AM/96.9 FM, with first pitch at 6:10.
