Action by state lawmakers for more school funding and approval by the Kansas Supreme Court has had an impact on districts across the state.
An example of that is USD 386 Madison-Virgil, where Superintendent Stu Moeckel said $120,000 in new funding is helping the district in several ways.
Moeckel is in his second year as superintendent after leading the Victoria school district. He thanked the Madison area for making his first year a successful one.
School starts Aug. 15, and Moeckel joined KVOE’s Morning Show recently to discuss funding impacts and new programs among a variety of topics. The district opened an early learning center for 3- and 4-year-olds earlier this summer after using an in-house private daycare facility earlier. It has also started a Navigating Student Center for Achievement, which uses donations to pay for dual-credit classes and fees if students are taking classes at Flint Hills Technical College. There is also a new agriculture education program starting this fall.
