A New Strawn woman will be spending over ten years in prison after being sentenced in Coffey County District Court Thursday.
According to a press release from the Kansas Attorney General’s office, 69-year-old Carol Sue Burris was found guilty in April of one count of reckless second degree murder and one count of mistreatment of dependent adult. The charges stem from the mistreatment and death of Burris’ husband Michael D. Burris from April 2016 to October 2017.
Burris received 117 months for the second degree murder charge and eight months for the mistreatment of a dependent adult charge for a total sentence of 125 months or 10 years and five months in prison.
