Wednesday is busy for USD 253 Emporia.
The district will have its final town hall meeting giving parents, patrons and interested Emporians more information about the special mail-in election Sept. 5 for a nearly $80 million facilities improvement bond. That meeting starts at 6 pm at the Emporia High library.
Immediately following that is the district’s regular school board meeting. Besides information about the bond, the district will hear from the Early Learning Facility Task Force as it continues its research into whether Maynard Early Childhood Center should be renovated or replaced. The board will also look over the fiscal 2019-2020 budget and could pass the budget for publication purposes.
That meeting starts at 7:30 pm at the Emporia High library.
As those meetings approach, the district has shifted enrollment procedures, ending the at-home enrollment period late Sunday and continuing enrollment at Flint Hills Learning Center. On KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren said most district students have now enrolled.
Landgren said there were some early hiccups with the change in the fee payment software, but those have been resolved. The district moved away from EZSchoolPay to RevTrak, and Landgren said some parents initially had trouble with setting up accounts or using the wrong passwords.
Hours for K-12 students are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday this week and next week. Starting Aug. 12, enrollment shifts to Mary Herbert Education Center.
To enroll preschool students at Maynard Early Childhood Center, Landgren says parents should stop by the school at 19 Constitution between 8 am and 5 pm to see if the students are eligible and to get the necessary paperwork if they are.
