Schedule adjustments and other short-term changes are ahead for the Emporia Public Library.
This week, the main schedule adjustment is an outright closure Thursday and Friday for annual maintenance. Library Director Robin Newell says this is for “deep cleaning.”
While the library is closed Thursday and Friday, the east parking lot will also be closed as the city begins work on the downtown sanitary sewer project nearby. Trees will be removed on the east side, closing that parking lot until further notice and prompting the library to move the book drop to the east edge of the lot. The actual sewer work begins Aug. 5, and patrons can expect a few other changes to get to the library like using the parking lot across Mechanic Street or using the south entrance instead of the east doors.
The current plan is for the library to be open for most, if not all, of the project. If utilities have to be shut off, the library will have to close until those are restored.
