The annual Friends of 4H Picnic served as a prelude to Lyon County Fair activities which get underway this weekend.
4H participants, families, sponsors and donors all convened at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building Thursday evening to share a potluck meal together. Lyon County Extension Agent Corrine Patterson says the annual meal serves as the official kickoff to the fair for 4H.
In addition to a fabulous dinner made up of contributions from those in attendance, recognition was also given for teams participating in the Team 4H Challenge. A total of 16 teams participated in the program which consists of four challenge areas.
This includes food systems, small animal, creative arts and team livestock. The challenge began in February and concluded earlier in July and Patterson says it emphasizes the team dynamic of 4H.
The first-place team in each category received $200 per team member, second place $100 and third place $50. The placings are as follows:
Team 4H Livestock
1st Place: Critters and Glitter: Kate Rees, Emily Miser and Bailee Van Sickle
2nd Place: Agillicious: Emma Miller, Carlie Geiger and Leanna Rust
3rd Place: The Happy Herd: Kaylie McKay, Clara Fischer and Grayson Hanlin
Team 4H Food systems
1st Place: Cooking Cupcakes: McKinley Senft, Hannah Jones and Kerstyn Fox
2nd Place: Reading Rebels: Caden Jackson, Spencer Fox and Hunter Senft
3rd Place: Three Dudes Cooking: Robert Jones, Landon Reeves and Crue Jackson
Team 4H Small animal
1st Place: Riverside Little Critters: Taylor Pringle, Bethany DeDonder and Landon Reeves
2nd Place: Featherhead Farmers: Grayson Hanlin, Michael Wendling and Kaylie McKay
3rd Place: Riverside Small Fries: Joanna Miller, Andi DeDonder and Korbin Reeves
Team 4H Creative arts
1st Place: Krafty Krew: Taylor Wilson, Hope Miller and Laynie Wilson
2nd Place: Riverside Creative Crew: John Pringle, Leo DeDonder and Dilynn Reeves
3rd Place: Craftastic Crew: Brynn Heffron, Garland Hanlin and Ty Karcher
In years past the Friend of the Agents recipient has been recognized during the picnic. However, due to time constraints organizers have moved that recognition to the 4H achievement banquet which will be held in October.
4H activities officially begin Friday.
