Students don’t move into residence halls at Emporia State University for three weeks, but the Emporia community can see what life will be like inside the new Schallenkamp Hall a lot sooner than that.
An invitation-only ribbon-cutting is coming at 4 pm Friday, followed by a community open house Saturday. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, Director of Residential Life Cass Coughlin said the open house features self-guided tours.
The open house is from 1-3 pm.
Coughlin says he’s pleased with how the final product looks, and he says others going through the facility recently have noticed “the intentionality behind the design,” including student learning spaces and community areas. Schallenkamp also has several features that are new to campus, including solar-powered tables and a rain-handler roof system to irrigate nearby greenery and minimize flash flooding.
Coughlin says students begin the move-in process Aug. 15-16. Staff begin arriving Aug. 1.
