Chase County residents may benefit from federal disaster relief programs if a request from Governor Laura Kelly is approved by the Small Business Administration.
Gov. Kelly sent a disaster declaration to the SBA for damage caused by flooding in Marion County from June 22 to July 6. Approved declarations impact the named county and all surrounding counties, which is how Chase County would benefit.
The state and SBA had preliminary damage assessments last week, and damages may meet the threshold for a declaration.
SBA provides low-interest disaster loans to businesses, non-profit organizations, homeowners and renters. Loans can be used to repair or replace including real estate, personal property, machinery, equipment and business assets.
