Downward trends in summer donations are negatively affecting the blood supplies of the American Red Cross.
This trend can be attributed to several different factors, including the absence of a student population – which accounts for 20 percent of donations – and the typically busier days of individuals during the summer. Knowing this, Susan Faler of the Red Cross says the need for blood doesn’t account for these excuses.
Upcoming local blood drives:
7/25 (12pm-6pm) – Emporia High School Stu-Co Fundraising Blood Drive at the Flinthills Mall
7/26 (12pm-6pm) – Northern Heights Blood Drive at the Americus Methodist Church
7/31 (11am-5pm) – Emporia State University Blood Drive in the Skyline Room of the Memorial Union
Donating blood isn’t a lengthy process, says Faler.
