The race for Pat Roberts’ US Senate seat is getting more crowded on the Republican side.
Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle of Wichita has filed her paperwork to run for that seat. Wagle is well-versed in legislative matters, starting in the Kansas House in 1990 and moving to the Kansas Senate in 2000. She was named Senate President in 2012 and was on former Emporian Jim Barnett’s gubernatorial ticket as lieutenant governor as part of an unsuccessful bid in 2006.
Wagle joins former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, current State Treasurer Jake LaTurner and former Kansas City Chief Dave Lindstrom as Republican candidates for the seat, which Roberts is vacating upon his retirement next year. Announced Democrats include former US Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom and former US Congresswoman Nancy Boyda.
