The Emporia AAA American Legion baseball team has earned a trip to State. The Post 5 seniors walked off with a 5-4 win over Pittsburg in the Zone 2 championship game Monday afternoon.
Trailing 4-2 going to the bottom of the 7th Post 5 loaded the bases and Beau Baumgardner cleared them with a double.
Baumgardner was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI.
Coach Anthony Markowitz said they stayed locked in.
The Seniors are now 30-1 for the season. They will next be playing in the AAA/AA State tournament hosted by Hays beginning July 31st. Beau Baumgardner says advancing to state is one of the big goals this summer.
For this group of players it will be their 3rd straight trip to Legion State. They won an A Legion State Championship in 2017.
