USD 253 Emporia Public Schools is nearing the end of its slate of town hall meetings designed to give patrons more information about a proposed bond designed to improve buildings across the district.
The district has hour-long town halls planned at 7:30 am Tuesday at Trusler Business Center and at 6 pm July 31 at the Emporia High library.
In addition, the district’s Vote Yes committee has slated an information meeting Thursday evening for people interested in the bond or who have had some past or current involvement in school PTOs and Site Councils. The meeting is at 7:30 pm at the Lyon County Annex.
The district has submitted a $78 million bond to address a series of needs, including safety and security, adding or renovating academic space, upgrading building systems and improving parking or traffic flow.
The election will be done by mail. Registration is due to the Lyon County Election Office inside the County Courthouse by Aug. 15, with ballots mailed to Emporia voters Aug. 16. Ballots need to be brought to the Election Office by noon Sept. 5 or mailed to the Courthouse no later than Sept. 3 to be counted.
