The Emporia Public Library’s Summer Reading Program came to a close on Sunday with the Grand Finale Pool Party.
The library’s Summer Reading Program helps children retain their reading skills by promoting them to dedicate time to read over the summer. Many different activities are used to help build an incentive. To get tickets for the pool party kids had to read 500 minutes or more during the break.
Stacie Sonnakolb, who was a parent involved with this year’s reading program, talks about what it was like with her eight-year-old son.
According to Children’s Services Coordinator Lori Heller the summer reading is just as important for families as a whole as it is for kids.
The program according to Heller had lots of participants this summer giving out over 500 tickets for just the pool party.
