Events in the Emporia community are continuing to benefit the Denim and Diamonds Fundraiser leading up to the annual Gala in two weeks.
Pre events began in May with the BBQ kickoff at Newman Regional Health and since then eight different fundraisers have been hosted by local businesses throughout the months of June and July. The next event on the schedule is an ice melt which will take place Saturday at Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal.
Newman Director of Business Development McKenzie Cinelli says this will be combined with Kari’s 10 year anniversary celebration. According to Cinelli, over the past week residents have been able to stop into Kari’s Diamonds and, for a price of $25, venture a guess for how long it will take for the ice to melt. Cinelli explains the individual who comes closest with their prediction will receive an exciting reward.
The white gold diamond ring is being offered up by Kari’s Diamonds and this is not the first time Kari’s has offered up a prize for the Denim and Diamonds fundraiser. Kari’s owner Kari Stookey says she looks forward to being involved with Denim and Diamonds any way she can.
According to Stookey, the block of ice which will be melted is a foot and a half by a foot and a half in diameter in the shape of a diamond. The ice will be set out at 10 am Saturday.
Following Saturday’s festivities, the final pre-event will take place next Wednesday at Coach’s Grill and Bar from 11 am to 9 pm. Cinelli says they will have the “famous” Coach Cinelli lasagna available throughout the day with a portion of the day’s proceeds being given to Denim and Diamonds. Pans of lasagna will also be available for pre-order and cost $125. Those wishing to purchase a pan are asked to call Coach’s ahead of time at 343-6362 and schedule a pickup time.
Proceeds from this year’s Denim and Diamonds fundraiser will be used to purchase new equipment for the Anesthesiology Department. The tenth annual Denim and Diamonds Gala will be held Friday, August 2nd at the Memorial Union’s Webb Hall on the campus of Emporia State University.
