Unemployment continues at a low pace in Kansas.
Department of Labor economist Emilie Doerksen says the June jobless rate dipped slightly from May.
The May jobless rate was 3.5 percent.
The Labor Department report does not say why there was a drop in the number of unemployed residents, although it says nonfarm jobs decreased by 900 from May to June — and private-sector jobs, a subset of nonfarm employment, had an increase of 600 jobs.
Labor Secretary Delia Garcia says there was a nearly 1-percent drop in state government jobs from last June.
Areawide, the city of Emporia had a 3.7 percent unemployment rate in June, up from 3.4 percent in May. Lyon County’s jobless rate was 3.6 percent, up from 3.4 percent. Chase and Morris counties were below 3 percent at 2.4 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively, for the lowest unemployment areawide. Coffey County had the highest unemployment at 4.9 percent.
