The good news: our current heat wave is ending soon. The bad news: Friday could be the hottest day of the four-day heat burst.
Air temperatures will be back in the upper 90s Friday, but slightly higher humidity levels could push Emporia’s heat index reading to 110 and some area towns could have higher heat indices by early evening.
Air temperatures have hit 97 both Wednesday and Thursday in Emporia, with heat index readings of 108 Wednesday and 107 Thursday. Melvern has had the worst heat index readings so far, hitting 111 both Wednesday and Thursday.
Heat and humidity will continue Saturday, with air temperatures of 96 and a heat index as high 106 in Emporia.
A cold front will drop air temperatures to the mid-80s Sunday. It will also generate slight chances of showers and thunderstorms from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning.
