The Kansas City Royals held off a late Chicago White Sox rally for a 7-5 win Wednesday night.
The Royals scored 2 runs in the first inning on singles by Jorge Soler and Nicky Lopez.
They added 4 runs in the 5th inning on a bases loaded walk and back to back singles by Jorge Soler and Nicky Lopez to take a 6-0 lead.
Soler finished with 3 RBI and Lopez finished with 2 RBI.
The White Sox scored 2 runs in the 6th. Whit Merrifield drove in a run in the 8th inning before the White Sox scored 3 runs in the 9th.
Merrifield was 3 for 3 with 2 walks a run scored and a RBI.
Danny Duffy was the wining pitcher going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts. Ian Kennedy picked up his 15th save when he recorded the final out in the 9th.
The Royals go for the sweep of the White Sox Thursday afternoon. Brad Keller will be the starting pitcher for the Royals. First pitch is set for 12:15p. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
The Royals placed Adalberto Mondesi on the 10 day injury list. He suffered a partial shoulder dislocation in Tuesday nights game. Humberto Arteaga was recalled from Triple-A Omaha.
The Royals also traded Terrance Gore to the New York Yankees for cash.
