One woman is spending part of Wednesday morning in the Lyon County Jail after a car-train crash in downtown Emporia well before sunrise.
The crash happened on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks between Commercial and Merchant streets and was reported just before 3:15 am. Police Lt. Kevin Risley tells KVOE News the driver, a woman, was southbound on Commercial and turned right onto the northernmost set of tracks before getting high-centered. She was able to get out of the car before a slow-moving westbound train on the center track hit the car, damaging the driver-side door.
The woman was unhurt but was taken to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. Her name has not been released.
The train was cleared to move shortly before 5 am.
