It’s the middle of July, and it’s getting really hot really quickly.
An excessive heat watch goes up at 1 pm Wednesday for the eastern two-thirds of Kansas, including the entire KVOE listening area, and it doesn’t end until 7 pm Saturday. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers:
Tuesday’s air temperatures will be in the low 90s, but humidity levels will push the heat index past 100 degrees areawide. For Wednesday, the air temperature climbs to 98 in Emporia with heat index readings as high as 106, and there will be similar temperatures and heat index readings for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
If you can, you’re encouraged to change your daily routine by spending as much time in air conditioning as you can and handle more strenuous activities in the morning or evening. If you can’t, drink lots of water, wear light, loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks. Also, make sure to check on young, old and pets alike to make sure they aren’t suffering any form of heat stress like excessive or no sweating, headache, dizziness, nausea or confusion.
We’ll keep you updated on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media.
