The Emporia Recreation Commission has officially closed the books on fiscal year 2018-19 and approved their 2019-2020 budget.
The budget gained final approval during one of essentially three meetings Monday evening. The total budget is just over $4.9 million with a total of just over $4.5 million for the general fund. According to Rec Commission Director Tom McEvoy, the budget will have no effect on the mill levy.
McEvoy says funds have been already been earmarked for several projects in the upcoming year.
During their regular meeting, McEvoy also updated the commission on flooding impacts at the DeBauge Family Sports Complex. McEvoy tells KVOE News the major issue involves the northwest corner of the parking lot, which he says has been an issue for several years.
McEvoy has met with city engineer Jim Ubert who is currently compiling options for repair work to the area which McEvoy says is an expense they have not planned for. According to McEvoy, they are looking for the cheapest, most efficient option for the project, however, it will still require the commission to pull funds from other planned projects essentially pushing said projects back.
McEvoy is hoping to have options ready to present to the commission at their August meeting.
Additionally, the commission recognized the retirement announcement of longtime Wellness Supervisor Barb Rourk from the ERC. Rourk has been in her position for over the past 20 years and McEvoy says she has been a constant team player and will be sorely missed. Rourk’s final day will be October 31st.
Leadership team updates and the approval of monthly payments for 2019-2020, the adoption of the G.A.A.P. waiver and the election of board positions also took place.
The Emporia Recreation Commission will next meet August 19 inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
