The Delong Farm just outside of Emporia was filled as far as the eye could see with antique tractors Friday as day one of the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association (HPOCA) annual summer show got underway.
Friday’s activities included several demonstrations including wheat threshing, hay baling, wheat binding and combine harvesting using antique equipment including a 1922 Avery Thresher. Tractor owners also jumped into their machines for the “parade of power” around the farm showing off their numerous Oliver Tractors of various makes and sizes.
President of the Central States HPOCA John Schoenauer says Friday saw a larger than expected attendance. In fact, due to the attendance, he says he barely had time to sit and rest, however, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
When asked what sets Oliver tractors apart from other brands, Shoenauer says the machines were the leader in innovation.
Along with all the tractor owners and residents who came out for the show, Shoenauer tells KVOE News they were also fortunate to have members of both the Hart and Parr families in attendance. The three-day show continues Saturday and will run through Sunday.
