Riders of all levels will “chase the moon” in the annual Lunar Kanza bike ride this weekend.
The Lunar Kanza is a nighttime bike ride through the flint hills with a similar format to the very popular Dirty Kanza 200 with some subtle changes.
What makes this bike ride so special is that it isn’t a race. The Lunar Kanza is a fun, 50-mile leisure night-time bike ride under a full moon. With already more than 500 registered participants, the Lunar Kanza gives riders a chance to experience the same ride as those in the DK but in a non-competitive light. Dirty Kanza Operations Manager Lelan Dains says the event is perfect for riders of all skill levels.
Along with a leisurely experience, the Lunar Kanza staff set up a token treasure hunt. Those tokens are redeemable at the starting line and can win prizes including riding gear, bike racks, and potentially a voucher that allows riders to bypass the DK lottery for automatic entry into the 2020 race.
The bike ride is set to start Saturday at 6 pm paired with a block party that begins at 7 pm in Downtown Emporia and ends at midnight. For more information, visit www.dirtykanza.com/lunar-kanza/
