A former Chase County Jail staffer accused of illegal sexual contact with an inmate has offered a plea to an amended count in her case.
Maudi McCorgary was originally in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing on charges of unlawful sexual relations and trafficking contraband into the Chase County Jail. That hearing was waived, though, as McCorgary pleaded no contest to an amended count of attempted unlawful sexual activity. All other charges were dropped.
McCorgary worked for the jail from August 2018 to early February. Court documents provided to KVOE News shortly after her arrest in May indicated McCorgary became involved with a Sedgwick County inmate before her employment ended, with the investigation starting after she allegedly sent the inmate a money order for his jail account less than three weeks after her employment ended. The investigation determined over 300 phone calls between the two, including some indicating sexual contact and also illegal contraband from McCorgary to the inmate.
Sentencing in Cottonwood Falls is set for 1:30 pm Sept. 16.
McCorgary is the second Chase County jail staffer to be charged with unlawful sexual conduct in the last eight months. Courtney White-Dold, charged in September with unlawful relations with another Sedgwick County inmate, agreed to diversion in April.
